전자현미경과 광학현미경을 통해 동전의 표면을 확대 촬영하며, 금속 위에 각인된 시간과 권력의 흔적을 탐색한다. 확대된 표면은 더 이상 단순한 화폐의 기능을 넘어, 역사와 이데올로기가 퇴적된 하나의 시각적 지형으로 드러난다.
이 작업은 그 미시적 풍경 위에 서로 다른 시대의 사건, 텍스트, 상징적 이미지를 중첩하여 새로운 서사를 구성한다.
그 과정에서 영웅과 권력, 신념과 현실이 충돌하며 우리가 익숙하게 받아들여온 역사적 서사를 다시 질문하게 만든다. 과학기술은 단순한 기록의 도구가 아니라 보이지 않는 세계를 확장하는 인식의 장치로 작동한다. 미시적 세계에서 드러나는 균열과 구조는 잊혀진 기억과 침묵된 역사적 서사를 호출한다.
이 작업은 과거와 현재, 상징과 물질, 신화와 현실이 교차하는 지점을 탐색하려는 시도이다. 결국 이러한 시선은 '본다’는 행위와 세계를 이해하는 방식 자체를 다시 사유하도록 이끈다.

Through the use of electron and optical microscopy, the surfaces of coins are magnified to explore the traces of time and power engraved in metal. At this scale, the coin is no longer merely a unit of exchange but emerges as a visual terrain where layers of history and ideology have accumulated. The work constructs new narratives by overlaying historical events, texts, and symbolic imagery onto this microscopic landscape.
Within these compositions, figures of authority, political ideals, and lived realities intersect and collide, prompting a reconsideration of historical narratives often accepted without question. Scientific technology functions not simply as a recording device but as a perceptual tool that expands the limits of vision. The fissures and structures revealed at the microscopic level evoke forgotten memories and suppressed histories.
The work ultimately explores the intersection of past and present, symbol and material, myth and reality. In doing so, it invites a reconsideration of the act of seeing and the frameworks through which we understand the world.

지호준 (b.1980)
전자현미경을 비롯한 다양한 과학기술을 활용하여 미시적 세계를 탐구하고, 이를 바탕으로 실험적인 시각언어와 스토리텔링의 새로운 가능성을 모색하는 사진 기반 미디어 아티스트이다.
현재 KAIST 산업디자인학과 겸직교수로 재직하며 예술과 과학기술의 접점을 탐구하는 연구와 창작활동을 병행하고 있다. 진화랑, 박영덕화랑, Shin-Gallery(New York), 수원미술전시장 등에서 개인전을 개최했으며, SIGGRAPH Asia Microscope Art Competition, 서울미술관, KIAF, Seoul Art Show 등 국내외 주요 전시에 참여했다. 또한 대전문화재단의 '아티언스(Artience)' 프로젝트 작가로 선정되어 예술과 과학의 융합 작업을 진행했으며, 수원문화재단 유망예술가로 선정되는 등 다양한 공공 예술 프로젝트와 기획전에 참여해왔다. 울산국제아트페어 Art in Science 금상, 사진예술 '오늘의 작가상', 한국광고 사진대전 대상 등을 수상했다. 작품은 서울시립미술관, KAIST, 9: 11 Memorial Center (New York), Consulate General of Switzerland(New York), Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Turkey, 삼동그룹, 도레이케미컬 등 국내외 주요 기관에 소장되어 있다. 또한 Digital Creativity(A&HCI) 게재 논문 「The depaysement art of the new media era incorporating the microscopic world」 (2021)을 포함해 미시 세계와 뉴미디어 표현에 관한 다수의 연구를 발표하였다.
Hojun Ji (b.1980)
Hojun Ji is a photo-based media artist who explores the microscopic world through scientific technologies, including electron microscopy, and investigates new possibilities of experimental visual language and storytelling. He currently serves as an adjunct professor in the Department of Industrial Design at KAIST, where he continues both research and artistic practice at the intersection of art and science. He has held solo exhibitions at Jin Gallery, Gallery Park Ryu Sook, Shin-Gallery (New York), and Suwon Art Exhibition Hall, among others, and has participated in numerous international exhibitions including SIGGRAPH Asia Microscope Art Competition, Seoul Museum of Art exhibitions, KIAF, and Seoul Art Show. He was also selected as an artist for the Artience Project by the Daejeon Foundation for Arts and Culture, a program dedicated to art-science collaboration, and was recognized as a Promising Artist by the Suwon Cultural Foundation, participating in various public art initiatives and curated exhibitions. His awards include the Gold Prize at "Art in Science" (Ulsan International Art Fair), the Today's Artist Award (Photography Art Magazine), and the Grand Prize at the Korea Advertising Photography Competition. His works are held in the collections of the Seoul Museum of Art, KAIST, the 9/11 Memorial Center (New York), the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Turkey, Samdong Group, and Toray Chemical, among others. He has also published several academic studies on the microscopic world and new media expression, including "The dépaysement art of the new media era incorporating the microscopic world" (Digital Creativity, A&HCI, 2021).
