산을 오르며 지나온 길과 순간들이 쌓여, 하나의 풍경이 되고 마음속의 산이 된다.
The paths and moments experienced while climbing the mountain come together to form a landscape—and become a mountain within the mind.
<山路: 點點>
승경(勝景)을 향한 여정의 길에서 머물렀던 시간은 그날의 이야기를 이어준다. 그리고 지나온 길들이 모여 산을 이루고 길에서 엮인 인연(因緣)이 산영(山影)을 어른거리게 만들어 작은 실오라기 같던 길들은 선명히 내 눈앞으로 다가와 산의 높이보다 더 깊이 마음속에 자리 잡는다.
‘산로(山路)’는 산에서의 사생 경험과 산을 바라보는 나의 시점을 담아낸다. 나는 그동안의 수많은 사생을 통해 정상의 찰나보다 길고 긴 길 위에서 마주한 풍경과 시간이 더 오래 마음에 남아 있음을, 그리고 내가 그려온 산이 길을 통해서야 비로소 그 형상을 갖추게 되었음을 깨닫게 되며 이후 나의 체험을 진솔하고 자연스럽게 표현하는 방향이 조금씩 분명해졌다.
"시간은 흘러 내 눈앞에서는 사라지지만 감각은 그 시간을 체득하여 나의 일부가 되어준다.”라고 한 심주(沈周)의 말처럼, 체험은 현장의 기록을 통해 기억 속에 잠재된 또 다른 감각을 불러온다. 그렇게 축적된 감각은 성정이 깃든 산천의 추억을 새로운 심상(心象)으로 투영하게 하고, 체화된 산수는 곧 내가 되어 나의 이야기가 된다. 산에서 마주한 하늘과 자연, 사람의 모든 점경(點景)은 하나의 이야기 줄기로 엮여 전경을 아우르는 흉중의 구학을 발견하게 한다.
이제는 길가에 존재했던 작은 점(點)들의 이야기를 좇아 나의 심산(心山)을 더욱 견고히 들여다보고자 한다. 큰 산형(山形) 속에 길을 드러내어 ‘경(景)’과 ‘정(情)’을 함께 즐기고자 했던 전통 산수화의 본의를 따라, 작은 점 하나하나는 화면을 이루는 요체가 되어 산수전경(山水全景)을 관통하는 기운을, 실제 경관과 사유의 경계에 머무는 묘취(妙趣) 속에서 진솔한 시선을 찾아간다.

<Mountain Path: Point by Point>
The time spent lingering along paths through beautiful landscapes carries forward the story of that day. Paths once traveled gather to form a mountain, and the ties of fate woven along the way cause its shadows to waver. What were once threadlike trails now come vividly into view, settling deeper in my heart than the mountain’s visible height.
Mountain Path reflects my experiences of working from life in the mountains and the standpoint from which I observe them. Through countless such encounters, I came to realize that what remains with me longer than the fleeting moment at the summit are the scenes and stretches of time met along the long paths themselves. I also came to understand that the mountains I have painted only truly take shape through these paths. From this realization, my direction gradually became clearer—toward expressing lived experience with sincerity and restraint.
As Shen Zhou(沈周) once noted, time may pass and disappear from sight, yet sensation absorbs it and makes it part of oneself. Experience, when recorded on site, stirs dormant senses embedded within memory. Accumulated over time, these sensations transform remembered mountains and streams into new inner images. The landscape thus internalized quietly becomes inseparable from myself, and in doing so, turns into my own story. The sky, nature, and every small presence encountered along the mountain paths are woven into a single thread, allowing the whole scene to emerge from what has already taken form within the mind.
Now, by tracing the stories of the small points that once appeared along the roadside, I seek to look more steadily into my inner mountain. Following the original intent of traditional landscape painting—to reveal paths within vast mountain forms and to dwell in both scene and sentiment—each point becomes an essential element of the composition. Through the subtle resonance that lingers at the boundary between observed landscape and inward reflection, I continue to search for a sincere way of seeing the vital current that runs through the complete view.
